O'Connor is back

Amesbury's Flannery O'Connor looked like her old self on Thursday night, scoring 22 points to lead Amesbury to a 51-29 win over Ipswich. Amesbury got eight 3-pointers from Catherine Laforte, Ciara Sullivan, Sadie Kermelewicz and Mary Bullis, and Alli Napoli was able to hang back as point guard and direct the offense without having to score much herself.

Amesbury comes back, beats Manchester Essex in OT

Trailing Manchester Essex 39-34 going into the fourth quarter, Amesbury mounted a late comeback to win 63-60 in overtime. Ciara Sullivan hit the game-winning shot with 20 seconds left in overtime, and Sadie Kermelewicz iced it with free throws down the stretch. Catherine Laforte also hit three of her four 3-pointers in the fourth quarter and overtime, and Alli Napoli led the team with 21 points. Amesbury also welcomed back leading scorer Flannery O'Connor, who scored 9 points in limited minutes as she works her way back from an ankle injury. Coach Matt Willis said O'Connor won't play in the team's next game, but has made good progress.

Clippers defense comes up big

The Newburyport girls basketball team held Amesbury to single-digit points in each of the four quarters, pulling away for a 48-26 win. Anna Hickman scored 13 points for the Clippers and Abigail Gillingham added nine in the win. Amesbury, who is still without leading scorer Flannery O"Connor, was led by Alli Napoli with 10 points.

Indians clinch as Napoli goes off

Amesbury sophomore Alli Napoli went off for 30 points and 20 rebounds as the Indians beat Georgetown 50-41. With the win, Amesbury is now 10-4 and has now clinched a postseason berth.

Pyrrhic victory

Amesbury held off a hot-shooting Georgetown to win 51-47 and improve to 9-3 on the season, but the win may have come at a big cost. Flannery O'Connor, the area's leading scorer, left the game in the second quarter with an ankle injury and did not return. Coach Matt Willis said she left on crutches and they are hoping to get good news when she goes in for an evaluation. Alli Napoli led the Indians with 26 points, and Georgetown was led by Autumn Dionne with 10 points.

Tale of two halves

Trailing Triton 26-19 at halftime, Amesbury freshmen Katherine LaForte and Mary Bullis came off the bench and gave the team a huge spark in the second half, knocking down two 3-pointers each to prompt a 19-4 third quarter and eventually a 53-44 win. Flannery O'Connor scored 17 of her 19 points in the second half, and Alli Napoli added 17 points. Triton was led by Alex Kennedy with 16 points.

Amesbury wins fourth straight

Flannery O'Connor led the way with 16 points, Alli Napoli had 11 points, and 10 other players scored as well, including freshman Sadie Kermelewicz (9 points) and Ciara Sullivan (8 points). Amesbury is now 6-2 and has won four straight.
