Clippers fall to Hornets

Newburyport got a second-half goal from Callie Beauparlant off a corner, but it wasn't enough to break Manchester Essex's long-running unbeaten streak within the Cape Ann League, as the Hornets pulled out the 2-1 win. Gabby Taynor made six saves in net for Newburyport, while Manchester Essex's goals came courtesy of Bridget Twombly and Christina Bullock. Manchester Essex (2-0-1) is now 51-0-6 in its last 57 CAL games dating back to 2014. Newburyport is now 2-3 and will face Lynnfield on Thursday.

Pentucket field hockey did not roll over facing previously unbeaten Manchester Essex (9-0-1). Clara Dore scored with 30 seconds left in the first half, and Morgan Messina stood tall in the cage as time expired to finish off the 1-1 tie.

Hillie crew shines

The Haverhill High crew team raced in the Textile River Regatta in Lowell over the weekend. The boys, coxed by Emily Benson and stroked by Vincente Nolet, came down the 5,800-meter course in 24:45, a 30-second improvement from last fall. The girls, coxed by Meg Sheehan and stroked by Grace Crockett, finished in 28:22.

Dana Edwards had two goals and two assists as Georgetown field hockey opened its season with a 4-1 victory over Rockport. Grace MacDonald added two goals and an assist, and Erika Newton made two saves in net. Chloe Martens also played a great game at midfield.
