Andover's Jason Denoncourt took first overall in 24.01, more than a second ahead of No. 2, in Thursday's North Shore Ski League meet. Alex Martel led North Andover, placing sixth overall (25.48).

Denoncourt is Interscholastic champ

Andover junior Jason Denoncourt beat out five St. John's Prep standouts to win the North Shore League's Interscholastic Meet. Denoncourt had quite a day at Bradford Ski Area with a combined slalol/giant slalom time of 44.31, to beat runner-up Jeff DiNitto (45.29) by nearly a full second.
The Prep easily won its 10th straight Interscholastic title with North Andover in second. Cole Masterson and Mitchell Flaherty went 7-8 overall to pace the Knights.

Milestone day on the hill

The local ski teams got an experience three decades in the making, as Thursday marked the first time their league ran slalom in the regular season meet in over 30 years thanks in large part to the addition of new brush base gates that don't pop out, similar to the ones used at the Olympics. Haverhill's Filip Matijevic was the top local finisher (fourth, 23.41), followed by North Andover's Jon Cooperstein (fifth, 23.45) and Cole Masterson (sixth, 23.53).

Denoncourt flies ahead

Andover's Jason Denoncourt was the fastest man on the hill, taking first in Tuesday's skiing opener with a time of 20.55. North Andover's Ben Cooperstein took eighth overall (21.02) and North Andover's Sam Naftal took 10th (21.10).

Led by North Andover resident Joe Cavallaro, who took top honors, St. John's Prep grabbed seven of the top eight places to blister the field in the skiing opener at Bradford yesterday. Jake Tarricone was third overall for Andover.

The Prep, Masco dominate

A strong, deep St. John's Prep squad placed three of the top four skiiers to handily win its opener over North Andover, 103-32, despite Nate Miceli's seventh-place finish. The Knights recovered to beat Manchester Essex. Andover rode the efforts of Tom Suglia and Adam Risman to a split, beating Austin Prep and falling to Masconomet. Despite the best efforts of Owen Kallery, Haverhill lost to Austin Prep in its season opener.
