Hornets pull away

The Pentucket and Manchester Essex girls lacrosse team were going back and forth late into Thursday's Division 2 North quarterfinal, but over the final 10 minutes the Hornets pulled away, rallying to beat Pentucket 12-8. Clara Dore scored five goals in the loss, Jacqui Cloutier had two goals and four assists, and Caroline Cloutier scored the remaining goal as the Sachems finished their season 11-6. Manchester Essex now advances to face rival Ipswich in the Division 2 North semifinals.

Clippers stay perfect

Newburyport girls lacrosse held off a late charge by Manchester Essex to win 11-10. Maggie Pons scored six goals to lead the way, Hannah Schilling had two goals and two assists, and Molly Laliberty made 11 saves. Newburyport is now 3-0 on the season.

Hornets vault out a victory

The North Reading boys and girls pole vault teams both won at the Mass Division 4 coach's relays. 

The North Reading girls jumped a combined 22 feet. (Jessie Valenti 9-0, Cole Godzinski 7-0 and Nikki Kowalski 6-0).

Sweet revenge

After losing this type of game five days before to Manchester Essex, Georgetown knew what it had to do to prevail this time against the Hornets. Kristen Pingree (six goals on the day) scored off a free play inside the eight-yard zone late in the second half to allow the Royals (8-8) to keep its tourney hopes alive with a 14-13 victory.

Surette saves the day

April Surette racked up 22 big saves as Georgetown dropped Manchester Essex, 18-11, to advance to the Division 2 North second round.
