Surette saves the day

April Surette racked up 22 big saves as Georgetown dropped Manchester Essex, 18-11, to advance to the Division 2 North second round. Shannon Hartford lived up to the hype while leading the offense with 11 points (six goals, five assists), and Kelly Burke chipped in a hat trick to go along with three assists. Kelly Burke scored six goals for Georgetown (10-5). Emma Cannon added three. Kristin Pingree (2 goals), Shannon Hartford (1 goal, 2 assists), Meghan Makiver (1 goal), Alyssa Rosenthal (1 goal), Kim Nowers (1 assist), and Brittany Moker (1 assist) keyed the offense. Goalie April Surrette made 17 saves — giving her a total of 34 in a span of two days.

Triton 16, Manchester 6

Natalie Sullivan (5 goals and an assist), Erin Curley (3 goals), Jen Rock (2 goals and 4 assists), Jill Gallagher (2 goals) Caitlyn Muller (2 goals), and Sara Nardone (2 goals) all contributed in a huge Triton (3-3) win over Manchester-Essex yesterday, winning their third straight game after losing the first three contests of the season.

Down seven goals heading into the second half, Newburyport put together a great second half performance, but fell a goal short ultimately in its come back attempt. Coach Catherine Batchelder said the Clippers came out slow and got in too big a hole, which has been an unfortunate trend for the team this season.

Leads keep evaporating

The Pentucket girls lacrosse team had four-goal leads in both the first and second half, but each time Manchester Essex rallied and a final goal with 40 seconds left gave the hoost Hornets a 12-11 win. Brianna Yocum scored four goals for the Sachems and freshman Shannon Beaton scored her first varsity goal and also had an assist.
