Georgetown-Ipswich’s Ian Forgitano and Pentucket’s Devin Young were the top two locals at Division 3 States in Wakefield, taking second at 106 and 195 respectively.

Boston takes title

 

Pentucket's Kalon Boston remained unbeaten, taking the Division 3 North title at 182 pounds, winning 5-3 in the finals. Also, Devin Young was runner-up at 195 as the Sachems finished seventh in the 13-team field, two spots behind Georgetown-Ipswich.

'Cats finish 2nd

 

Whittier Tech finished second at its own Travis Yell Dual Meet Tournament, falling to Winchester 42-21 in the finals. Andrew Buzzell continued his outstanding year with four more wins at 195 and Sal Fonzo was also 4-0 with one of his wins coming at heavyweight. The Wildcats finished their dual-meet season with a 15-5-1 record.

CAL cites Boston

 

Pentucket senior Kalon Boston remained undefeated and turned quite a few heads at the Cape Ann League/Northeast Conference meet Saturday.

Boston coasted to the 170-pound title, winning with a 17-0 technical fall in the finals and was named CAL Wrestler of the Year. His training partner, Devin Young nearly joined him in the winner's circle, losing in overtime in the 195-pound finals.

Pentucket's Kalon Boston (182) and Devin Young (195) both won their matches to remain undefeated as the Sachems split a tri-meet at Watertown.

Escape for Blythe

 

Rob Blythe got an escape with 13 seconds left to secure a 1-0 win at 138 to give Georgetown-Ipswich an exciting 39-36 win over Whittier in a quad-meet at Pentucket. Also key for G-I (now 7-0) was that Ian Forgitano, wrestling up at 120 pounds, got a late pin. Led by Shaun Mears at 170, Whittier wrestlers were unbeaten in the final five weight classes.

Royals take third

 

Georgetown-Ipswich, which won the Scituate Tournament a week earlier, had its best performance in years by placing third in the 16-team Wakefield tournament, one place ahead of Methuen, which was battling illness and injuries.

Pentucket wins opener

Pentucket wrestling pulled out an exciting 28-24 win over Salem (Mass.). Mason Linger picked up his first varsity win by pin in 46 seconds, and Jason Young, Andrew Gould, Devin Young and Kalon Boston all picked up key wins as well.
