After the first two batters in the top of the seventh were retired, Kirsten Morrison walked and a single and a base on balls later came around to score on a walk to Brittany Venezia for the deciding run in No. 12 North Reading's 6-5 victory over No. 4 Wilmington in the Division 2 North quarterfinals.
The Hornets (15-7) advance to face No. 8 Arlington Catholic (16-6) in the semifinals tomorrow (5 p.m.) at Martin Field in Lowell.
"It was a very good win," said North Reading coach Rusty Russell.
Jenn Shields struck with the biggest blow of the game with a three-run triple that sparked a five-run fifth inning that set up the last-inning heroics.
Alex Moise added the defensive play of the day, making a tremendous snag in the whole between third base and shortstop to hold Wilmington to just one run in the third.
North Reading downed Arlington Catholic 5-2 in thier regular-season meeting on May 30.
