JAMACA PLAINS — Another game, another big performance for Joe Pizzuto.
The Greater Lawrence running back rushed for three touchdowns in the first quarter, as the Reggies jumped out quickly and rolled to a 28-6 victory over West Roxbury.
“The kids played very well,” said Greater Lawrence coach Tony Sarkis. “We went ahead big early, and let the second unit finish off the game.”
Pizzuto took control right away. By the time there was still 3:27 left in the first quarter, the diminutive running back had already tallied three rushing touchdowns, with scores of 9, 23 and 7 yards. He added the final score, a 39-yard jaunt in the third.
He finished the day with 189 yards on 20 carries. QB Juan Carlos Gomez and receiver Luis Mendoza connected on two passes for 71 yards.
Angel Rivera led the Reggies with 12 tackles, while Juan Olivo added seven tackles and a sack. Luiz Mendoza blocked a punt and Jose Sanchez recovered two fumbles for the winners (6-2).
Greater Lawrence next travels to Shawsheen and Lynn Tech.
“We have big games coming up,” said Sarkis. “This is a big momentum boost.”
