Odds and ends: Morgan Farmer, whose older sister Lindsay is a standout at UMass Lowell, will probably not pitch this year to concentrate on playing shortstop. ... Pitcher Krissi Romano's older sister, Sammi, is off to a hot start as a sophomore at Plymouth State. ... With its field at the new high school still not ready to use, Sanborn will probably once again play at Chase Field . ... Sanborn's numbers continue to improve, from 38 at tryouts last year to 46 this spring, including a strong freshman class. Head coach Dan Carbone may keep as many as 20 on the varsity. ... After never having won a Class M title, the 2006 Indian team won it all and last year's club lost in the quarterfinals to eventual champion Gilford.

Coach Dan Carbone (11th year, 122-74): "I'm pretty excited about my defense and (pitcher) Krissi Romano has looked very strong. A lot of girls played in the summer and I can see the growth and maturity on this team. Our goal is to be better than No. 8 in the state. We need to hit a little better, but I think we should have a very good year. We're developing more depth than we've had."
