Once Whittier's girls got out of foul trouble, it had no trouble with Shawsheen last night.
With its frontcourt on the bench, Whittier trailed 27-26. When they were on the court, aided by some strong pressure defense, the Wildcats surged past the Rams for a 58-39 victory.
Samnell Vonleh led the way with 18 points, 12 rebounds and 9 blocks while Andrea Terranova chipped in with 15 points and Kiana Guadalupe had three 3-pointers and 11 points in an overwhelming 22-8 advantage in the fourth quarter.
Toni Mariano played a key role off the bench in the first half with four rebounds for Whittier, which plays at New Mission at 7 p.m. tomorrow.
