Owls win historic 4th straight New England title

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Timberlane wrestling team celebrated Senior Night for the second time last night. With a little help from junior star Zach Bridson, who finished third at 112 after a heartbreaking loss in the semifinals, the Owls cemented their way into the record books by capturing their fourth straight New England title. Until last year, no team had ever won more than two straight crowns.

North Andover crowns six in state sectionals

WINCHESTER — After helping North Andover to convincing victories in the Divison 2 team sectional and state semifinals earlier, six Scarlet Knights capped off a successful week with championships at yesterday’s North Section individual tournament at Winchester High School.

Central Catholic held off Dracut 36-35 in a Merrimack Valley Conference barnburner with Matt Armano's 3-2 decision at 135 a key match. Also huge were Dave Stryzkalski's 7-5 decision at 160 and a second-period pin at heavyweight by Manny Suarez.

Rust wears off

 

Central Catholic junior heavyweight Manny Suarez, who took last year off, delivered a decisive pin to help lift the Raiders to a tough 39-37 victory over a gritty Andover team coached by former Central standout Jamie Durkin in his first duel against his alma mater.
