For the Bishop Fenwick girls soccer team and their 10 seniors, the 2007 season did not end the way they had hoped. The fourth-seeded Crusaders were upset in the Division 3 North quarterfinals yesterday by No. 12 Wakefield, falling 2-0 at home.

Bishop Fenwick's girls soccer team won its second Catholic Central League title in the last three years with a satisfying 2-0 defeat of league rival Arlington Catholic yesterday.

"We always have high goals and one is to win the league," said Crusaders head coach Karen Guillemette. "I've been pleasantly surprised with our success."

Jill Dean stopped three shots to earn her second straight shutout for the Crusaders (12-3, 9-1 CCL). Danielle Dinuccio and Melissa Garabedian had the goals, while Erin O'Leary assisted on both.

Bishop Fenwick beat St. Mary's 3-0 on the strength of Maddy Bissaillon's two goals.

Kristin Verrette had a goal for the Crusaders (7-2, 5-1 CAL) while keeper Jill Dean had the shutout in net and Kerri Wallick shined defensively.

Bishop Fenwick beat rival Archbishop Williams 1-0 on Elly O'Leary's first-half strike. Jill Bean was hardly tested in goal as the Crusaders defense only allowed two shots on goal.

It was not easy for Michelle Garabedian to pass up going to Salem High School.

Her grandfather Harry, a retired Salem firefighter, has been inducted into the Salem High Athletic Hall of Fame as one of the school's best-ever basketball guards. Her father, Scott, was a Salem High football captain.

Danvers defeated Bishop Fenwick 2-1. Ashley Sullivan and Casey King scored for the Falcons and Kristin Verrette scored for the Crusaders. Brittany Russo and Jackie Gauthier added assists for the Falcons.

Kristin Verrette tallied two goals and an assist and Melissa Garabedian chipped in a goal and an assist to power Bishop Fenwick to a 5-0 whitewashing of Marian.

Bishop Fenwick scored a goal in each half to shut out Austin Prep 2-0. Bianca Gallo and Elly O'Leary each found the back of the net for the Crusaders.
