Jon Spohn set Sunday

 

 The popular Jon Spohn Tournament, named for the first Salem High wrestler to reach 100 wins, takes place Sunday, Jan. 9 at Salem High School. The popular youth tourney, for grades K-8, has 350 participants from all over New England and is a qualifier for the Tournament of Champions nationals and the Gene Mills Eastern Nationals. The tourney is a fund raiser and bears a scholarship in the name of Spohn, a terrific student-athlete who went to Columbia University.

Notre Dame 48, PMA 30

Taryn Capozzi played well on both ends of the floor (5 points, 3 assists, 14 rebounds and 6 steals) but PMA dropped a 48-30 decision to Notre Dame. "She's an aggressive girl," head coach Joe DeBlois said of the 5-6 junior who led the team in boards. "She mixes it up for sure."

Hoopes rebounds the game

Molly Hoopes scored 12 points with 17 rebounds and Haverhill beat Notre Dame 47-21. Jessica Cotto added 14 points with six rebounds and two 3-pointers.

Ashley Greer hit four three-pointers on her way to a game-best 18 points as Lawrence won for the second time in as many nights, this time with a 42-34 win over Notre Dame. Angelice Gonzalez had 15 pounts and 11 assists while Elisandra Valentin had 11 rebounds.
