Central Catholic's girls soccer team clipped Haverhill 2-0 to eliminate its hopes for a state tourney berth. Gabie Polce and Jillian Lane scored for the Raiders (11-1-3).

Haverhill needed a win to make the tourney but the Hillie soccer team fell, 2-1, to Dracut. Molly Fitzgerald tallied for the Hillies, who couldn't catch a break. The Brown and Gold have to beat Central Catholic Saturday to qualify for the postseason.

Peaking at the right time

Getting healthier and playing better as tournament season draws nearer, Haverhill moved to within a game of qualifying with a 2-0 victory over Chelmsford. With a tenuous 1-0 lead in the second half, freshman goalie Kelleigh Cokely stoned the Lions on a clean breakaway to preserve the advantage.

Amazing Happens with Fitzgerald

Coach Fred Tarbox raved about forward Molly Fitzgerald after Haverhill soccer's 3-0 win over Notre Dame.

"For the second game in a row, Molly Fitzgerald had two incredible goals. The first one she was dribbling and put it in the top right corner from 25 yards out. The second one again was about 20 yards out. A rocket over the goalie's head. She has seven goals on the season. Seven incredible goals.  She's one of the league's best forwards. She's terrific. ''
