Central Catholic's swimmers assured themselves of at least a .500 season, polishing off Billerica, 101-80. Chelsea Nolan excelled for the 6-5 Raiders, snagging victories in the 200 and 500 free, while adding a sharp leg on the victorious 400 free relay team.

Fund raiser for James

The Pinkerton girls soccer team will be asking for donations at its 4 p.m. home game today against Dover to help raise money for 14-year-old Pinkerton freshman Janelle James who was diagnosed with Acute Myeloblastic Leukemia in July.

Central Catholic swam to a strong 85-70 victory over Notre Dame of Tyngsboro. Meg Mead (200 IM, 2:41.85) and Kayla Nice (100 breaststroke, 1:24.20) turned in personal bests to highlight the Raider triumph.

Daly dazzles

Central Catholic's Hannah Mitchell won two events but it was all over Andover after that. Deborah Daly (220.60) and Jenny Coneeny (213.55) went 1-2 for the unbeaten Golden Warriors, who rolled to the easy win.

Opolskis make waves

Haverhill has a strong core of senior leadership but co-captain Emily Opolski rose above the pack in a season-opening 88-80 victory over Central Catholic at Lawrence YMCA. Emily won the 200 IM (2:18.41) and 100 butterfly (1:03.21) and swam legs on two winning relays, anchoring the 400 freestyle relay. Sister Maggie Opolski mirrored Emily, winning the 100 freestyle (58.29) and 100 backstroke (1:04.81) as well as the two relays. Hannah Mitchell was the Raiders' standout, taking top honors in the 200 and 500 freestyle.
