ARLINGTON —  All Sue Breen could do was rub her temples. Her head hurt. And for good reason.

“We ran into a buzzsaw,” the North Andover coach said after her team fell to Arlington Catholic, 56-32, in the Division 2 North quarterfinals at Arlington High School.

NORTH ANDOVER — This is a stressful time for high school seniors like Nicole Zahoruiko. The college letters are slowly trickling in.

“I have to calm her down,” her sister Erika said. “I’m the only one who can.”

Nicole Zahoruiko tallied a team-high 17 points, and sister Erika Zahoruiko added eight as North Andover topped Hamilton-Wenham 46-34.

Salem coach E.J. Perry has been named as an assistant for the 2009 boys New Hampshire Twin -tate Basketball Classic team as an assistant to Sean Young of Wilton-Lyndeborough High School. Also, Perry will move to the head coach position for 2010. Young as yet to name his second assistant.   New Hampshire selects its team in March from 2009 graduates, will practice in late June and will take on Vermont at the University of Vermont in Burlington on July 11.  

Freshman Julia Titone had the game of her young career, scoring four points and grabbing seven rebounds as North Andover crusied to an easy 61-39 victory over Chelmsford. 1,000-point scorer Nicole Zahoruiko had another double-double with 16 points and 12 boards, and Hillary Fonseca played shut-down defense in addition to dishing out two assists.

Katie Moroney had 8 steals to go along with her 8 points and 6 rebounds in North Andover's 55-40 win over Wilmington. Nicole Zahoruiko led the Knights (11-5, 9-2) with 18 points.

Nicole and Erika Zahoruiko were pivotal in North Andover's tourney-qualifying 51-43 victory over Triton. Erika drained six freebies en route to a 12-point night, and Nicole double-doubled with 16 points and 17 boards. Amanda Foote was a terror on defense, limiting Triton star Brittany Caprio to just 4 points.

In addition to scoring 14 points, Kirsten Daamen swatted away 8 shots as she never let North Andover establish an inside presence in Pentucket's 52-35 win. Ashley Viselli dropped a game-high 16 points (four 3-pointers) and added 7 steals, and Erin McNamara had 7 points and 8 assists. 1,000-point scorer Nicole Zahoruiko led the Knights in scoring with 14 points.

The Pentucket Sachems (15-1) beat North Andover last night, 52-35, winning their tenth straight game in the process. Ashley Viselli led the charge with 16 points and Kirsten Daamen added 14.

Taryn O'Connell had another double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds, but Georgetown was out-gunned by North Andover, 56-42.
