Andover senior Sean Burke fired an exceptional 35 on the back nine yesterday to finish with a 72 and finish in a tie for fourth at the Division 1 state golf tournament at Brookmeadow Country Club in Canton.

MVC Individual championship

Andover's Eric Hooker fired a 73 to earn the top spot at the Merrimack Valley Individaul Golf championship. Hooker led the pack of 27 golfers. Teammate Sean Burke fired a 75 to finish second overall. Haverhill's Tim LeBlanc finished sixth overall with a 79. Central Catholic's top golfer was Dylan Ryan (80).

Central clinches berth in state tournament

Central Catholic golf defeated Dracut 13-7 to earn a berth in the state tournament. The Raiders were led by Joe Leavitt who shot an even par of 36 and Dylan Ryan who shot a 37.

Central Catholic's big three of Jake Hajec, Joe Leavitt and Jeff Sheehy cleaned up in a 20-0 shutout of Dracut in golf. Hajec and Leavitt shared medal honors with a 35 and Sheehy was next with a 37.

Eagle Eye

Haverhill's Tim LeBlanc notched an impressive eagle on a par-5 at Haverhill Country club. On his third shot, he found the cup from 170 yards out with his 6-iron. LeBlanc shot a 36 on the day and the Hillies beat Central Catholic 111/2-81/2.

Jake Hajec's even par 36 led Central Catholic to a 20-0 shutout of Lowell. Dylan Ryan stood out with a 38 while Joe Leavitt, Kevin Desjardins and Jeff Sheehy each scored 39s for the Raiders (4-4).

Central takes top seven spots against Methuen

Central Catholic absolutely dominated Methuen 18-2. Leading the way was Jake Hajec, who shot a round-low of 37. Kevin Desjardins finished two strokes back with a 39, while Dylan Ryan, Brian Flannery and A.J. Frisone finished three strokes behind the leader with 40s. Jeff Sheehy and Cam Keller shot a 42 and 43, respectively. Methuen's Jake Hulme was the team's lone winner with a round of 44.
