Hillies earn shutout

Tyler McDonald tossed seven innings of scoreless ball, allowing just three hits and striking out six as Haverhill baseball defeated Tewksbury, 8-0. Bryan Carter went 3 for 3 with three RBIs to pace the Hillies at the plate.

Hillies win 2nd

 

 

Junior pitcher Zach Durso won his second game, which was also Haverhill's second win of the season, 7-4 over Dracut. Durso struck out 6 and allowed just four hits over six inning and retired the last 10 batters. He also drove in two runs as did Elijah Moses (2 for 4).

Derwin Oleaga drew a walk in the bottom of the seventh inning to drive in Connor Madden and propel Methuen baseball past Haverhill, 1-0. Tyler McDonald was stuck with the loss for Haverhill, despite 6 2/3 innings of two-hit baseball on the bump.

McElroy blasts a pair

Jake McElroy launched two home runs, also had a triple and finished 4 for 5 at the plate with four RBIs to power North Andover over Haverhill, 11-1. Freshman Ryan Griffin picked up his first win on the mound for the Knights (10-1), who qualified for the state tournament.

Josh Gruenberg went the distance on the mound for Andover, striking out seven in a 2-0 shutout win over Haverhill. He also went 2 for 2 at the plate, and Matt Potts and Aidan Ritter drove in the runs for the Warriors (6-2).

Durso dominate

Zach Durso mowed down the first 17 batters he faced as part of a dominant 1-hitter with five strikeouts to lift Haverhill to its first win over the season, 1-0, over Methuen. Matt Maginnis had a hit and an RBI in a four-run fourth inning for the Hillies. Devin Melia had Methuen's lone hit.

Hard-to-take loss

 

Haverhill's baseball team dropped a tough 2-1 game at St. John's Prep to open the season when the Eagles scored both their runs in the bottom of the seventh. Junior Zach Durso was the hard luck loser despite scattering five hits.
