HAVERHILL — As remarkable as her career has been, it's almost a tragedy the last shot Michaela Kane faced slipped past the Hillie goalie for a sudden-death game winner.

Looking for the third-year program's first postseason victory, sixth-seeded Haverhill-Pentucket-North Andover took 22nd-seed St. Mary's into overtime, but the Spartans took advantage of a rebound that was slammed home for a 1-0 victory in the first round of the Mass. Division 1 tourney.

For the second time this year and third time in the last two years, the Haverhill-North Andover-Pentucket girls hockey team and Methuen/Tewksbury battled to a 1-1 tie. Alex Casale scored for Haverhill with Kelly Golini netting Methuen's only goal. Michaela Kane had 29 saves for Haverhill (12-2-6) while Kaia Hollingsworth stopped 19 shots for Methuen (16-0-3).

Michaela Kane made 15 saves for her eighth shutout of the season as HPNA downed Cambridge Rindge & Latin 2-0. Amanda Regan and Rebecca Harty each scored a goal.

Trailing by two goals heading into the third period, Haverhill/Pentucket/North Andover surged back to take a 3-2 victory. Jess Chicko scored two goals and Maddie Fredo scored once for HPNA.

Haverhill-Pentucket-North Andover goalie Michaela Kane stuffed Andover on a penalty shot late in the second period, helping her team pull out a hard-fought 2-1 win.

Jess Chicko notched her second hat trick of the season and Catherine Capobianco tallied four assists as Haverhill rolled over Cambridge 5-0.

Michaela Kane made 27 saves but Haverhill-North Andover-Pentucket couldn't generate enough offense and dropped a 1-0 decision to St. Mary's of Lynn. Georgetown's Katie Terban had an assist for St. Mary's which scored its lone goal in the third period.

Jess Chicko recorded her first hat trick of the season as the Haverhill-Pentucket-North Andover girls hockey team beat Boston Latin 5-2.
