LYNN — Georgetown junior midfielder Kristin Hogan scored more goals in the Division 3 North title game yesterday than she did in the Royals’ first 13 regular-season games combined.
Hogan scored twice, netting the tying goal and the game-winner as she and the Royals won 5-1 over St. Mary’s to claim the Division 3 North championship at the Manning Bowl in Lynn.
Hogan entered yesterday with three goals this year. She didn’t score her first goal until Georgetown’s 11th game this fall.
She has been the star the past two playoff games though. She scored the lone goal off a corner kick in the Royals’ 1-0 victory over Lynnfield in the North semifinals Thursday at the Manning Bowl before netting two yesterday.
“(Most of the season) I was more of a crosser, and I was an outside-mid so I would cross and get it to Nicoline (Holland), our main goal scorer and that was my role,” Hogan said. “And then the Lynnfield goal just gave me so much confidence to do more than just cross it. So I decided to bring that (confidence) into this game and it worked.”
Hogan’s goal against Lynnfield was her first since a 3-2 Georgetown victory over Triton on Oct. 24.
“The tournament games, I always get extra pumped up,” Hogan said. “And I love playing at this field.”
St. Mary’s scored the first goal 15 minutes, 24 seconds into the contest when senior forward Brianna Anderson put one past Georgetown goalie Jamie Block.
But Hogan scored the tying goal just 7:19 later to make it 1-1. It was unassisted.
“It’s been a tough season, but she (Hogan) totally shines when she needs to, and she really pulled through for the whole team this game as well as last game,” talented Georgetown senior defender Kelly Chickering said.
Hogan scored again 10:49 into the second half to give Georgetown a 2-1 advantage.
“She’s been our strong attacker,” Georgetown coach Colleen Gibbs said about Hogan. “She usually serves great balls from the corners. And she has taken a lot of shots. Yeah, she’s been successful, especially on this field.”
Hogan’s brother Mike Hogan is a senior defender for the Georgetown boys team. So Hogan went from star player to star fan in a matter of minutes yesterday as the boys team played Lynnfield in the Division 3 North final right after the girls’ game.
“I am wicked excited (to watch him),” Hogan said. “I just want Georgetown to win their game now. Most of us our staying for it.”
Kristin got her wish, as the Royals boys won 2-0 over Lynnfield.
Kristin and Mike Hogan have played a great deal of soccer together over the years.
“When we were little, we had a back(yard) kickboard and we’d go out with our dad a lot,” Kristin said. “And my little sister also plays soccer. We also played basketball. We’re out there a lot all playing together.”
Kristin, who is a shooting guard for Georgetown girls basketball, liked the total team effort by the Royals yesterday.
Jenny Migliaccio scored from about 17 yards out to make it 3-1 Georgetown with 22:35 left in the contest. Sheridan Holland, sister of Nicoline, then scored to make it 4-1 Royals with 18:16 left. And Devin Cudmore added the final goal with 7:44 left.
Cudmore’s goal was her first of the season. Holland’s goal was her second of the year and Migliaccio was her fourth of the fall.
“Some players that haven’t really scored for us much this year, they came through today,” Gibbs said.

LYNN — Junior Kristin Hogan scored off a corner kick with 18:04 left in the second half to give Georgetown a 1-0 win over Lynnfield last night in the Division 3 North semifinals.
Manning Field in Lynn is the place to be Saturday for Georgetown soccer fans. The girls will play St. Mary’s of Lynn at 12:30 followed by the boys’ game at 3 p.m.

A refocused Georgetown squad came out in the second half and totally dominated Newburyport, dealing the Clippers their first CAL soccer loss, 3-2. With 20 minutes left in the game, Ashley Mueskes sent across a perfect corner kick that Kristin Hogan was able to poke into the net for the winning score. Nicoline Holland excelled on the front line for the Royals and goalie Jamie Block shook off an aggressive Newburyport offense to make 15 saves.
