North Reading continued its late-season surge on the ice with a 4-1 win over Lowell Catholic to qualify for the state tournament with a 10-7 record. Casey Sweeney, who played Junior hockey last year, had two goals and two assists as Haverhill's hockey team (1-1) whipped Lowell Catholic 6-1 in the first round of the Dracut Holiday Tournament. Skating on the same line, Jeff Roberts (1-1) and Tom Maguire (1-1) also scored and Jeremy Noone also had a pair of goals.
