For the second time this spring, Andover's Austin Bendetson defeated Central Catholic ace Chris Bunker, this time 6-4, 6-3, as the Warriors (16-3 overall) blanked the Raiders 5-0 to finish the regular season as undefeated Merrimack Valley Conference champions.

Close call

 

Haverhill's volleyball team ended the regular season undefeated (18-0), but it wasn't easy, edging Andover  3-2. James Murray and Drew Caruso both had 17 kills for the Hillies to offset the 33 kills of Andover's Joe Kuykendall and Zach Sindoni piled up 46 assists.

Hook, Andover post big win

Senior goalie Andy Hook posted 18 saves and the Andover defense held Masconomet scoreless in the second and third quarters. Andover won 10-6 over Masco, which is ranked 11th in Eastern Mass.

Nearing tourney

 

 

Andover's softball team took a big step toward qualifying for the state tournament with an 11-1 romp over Haverhill. The Warriors (9-9) got a strong pitching performance from Kassandra Hunt and banged out 12 hits, including three from Taylor Farris, who scored three times.

Eight straight for Andover

Ally Fazio and Charlotte Lenes each scored three times to lead Andover in a 14-5 win over Chelmsford. The win clinched the Merrimack Valley title for the eighth-straight year for the Golden Warriors (16-3).  With the win, Andover concludes its third straight undefeated MVC season.

Colin Flynn smacked a two-run double in Andover's five-run as the Warriors clinched a state tourney berth at Methuen's expense, 5-3. The win came with a price as shortstop Andrew Deloury had to leave the game, suffering an 11-stitch cut in his shin. Replacement Frank Potts chipped in with an RBI in the win. Methuen, at 7-11, is eliminated from tourney contention.

Lawrence outlasted Andover

Reibin Hiraldo scored 12 service points and 38 assists as Lawrence held off upset-minded Andover 25-22, 22-25, 23-25, 25-16, 25-11. Anibal Henriquez added 15 kills and seven digs for the winners, while Joe Kuykendall continued to star for the Golden Warriors with 35 kills and 18 digs.
