Lawrence earns first win

Five-foot-7 guard Jaylen Alicea netted 16 points as he helped Lawrence earns its first victory this season with a 68-45 rout over Cathedral. Alicea, a sophomore who averaged 10.0 points per game last year, scored just six points in Lawrence's (1-1) opener. Meanwhile, senior Michael Calzetta, who sat out last year, scored 10 points.

Powered by Sarah Oteri's hat-trick, the Andover girls hockey team reached 100 program wins with a 6-0 victory over Cathedral. Oteri finished with 4 points while adding an assist to her three goals while Nicole Giroux notched two goals and an assist as well. Goaltender Megan Pettoruto stopped 24 shots en route to her eighth shutout of the season.

Not-so-sweet 16

Julio Colon had 16 points, but it wasn't enough as the Georgetown boys basketball team lost to Cathedral, 54-53. The Royals closed out the first half with an 18-14 lead, but Cathedral dropped a ridiculous 40 points in the second half to pull away. Go-to-guy Jaymie Spears (nine points on 2-for-19 shooting) had a buzzer-beating field goal attempt clank off the front of the rim to end the game. Georgetown struggled mightily from the free-throw line (16 of 31), and also missed seven easy layups.
