GEORGETOWN — Georgetown coach Matt Bouchard expressed plenty of pride after the contest.
“I am really proud of how we played today,” said Bouchard. “We had fight and we played with passion.”
The Royals pushed Cape Ann League Small rival Hamilton-Wenham to the limit before falling 12-10 yesterday afternoon.
“I am thrilled with their effort today,” said Bouchard. “One of the things we had been lacking is that effort when we needed it. It’s that effort that’s going to win games.”
Georgetown took the lead early in the second quarter. Starting at their own 11-yard-line, the Royals marched 88 yards and quarterback Tyler Wade scored on a 4-yard run.
Wade threw for 127 yards on the day and kicked a 27-yard field goal in the third.
“I feel he managed the game really well today,” said Bouchard. “He controlled the huddle, and I think that is the true sign of a leader. I have nothing but good things to say about Tyler, he has a great work ethic, he’s a great kid, and he’s only a junior.”
Elliot Burr of Hamilton-Wenham led the Generals, rushing for 109 yards on 22 carries.
Hamilton-Wenham answered the Royals’s first touchdown with 0:16 left in the first half, Trevor Lyons ran in from 3 yards out to make the score 7-6. The Royals blocked the extra point attempt to keep the lead.
Georgetown got the ball to start the second half, but after going three-and-out, Burr scored on an 18-yard run to give the Generals the score for good.
The Royals got the ball back with 2:40 to go in the game, but could do no more.
“Georgetown showed that they have the ability to play with fight,” said Hamilton-Wenham coach Andrew Morenci. “I think they played really well against us today.”
