No. 5 Haverhill picked up perhaps the biggest win in program history.
By defeating No. 4 Acton-Boxboro 2-0 in the Division 1 North quarterfinals, the Hillies | according to Eagle-Tribune records | advanced to the North semifinals for the first time.
"The kids, they do what they have to do," Haverhill coach John Coppola said. "Their slogan is 'Do work'. They do work."
Peter Maranto and Stallone Mujuru each scored goals for the Hillies, who got a big performance from goalie Graham Hart. He only made five saves, but two of them were diving stops.
Freddie Alves (assist), Steve Lesiczka, Charlie Roche and Alex Sindoni played well for Haverhill, which will next take on the winner of today's Lincoln-Sudbury-Woburn quarterfinal-matchup.
