Termed "the championship" by head coach Kevin Maloney, Greater Lawrence Tech took home the State Vocational title by defeating Bristol-Plymouth Tech of Taunton, 25-22, 25-16, 25-16 yesterday.
"The girls look forward to the Vocationals," Maloney said of the squad's second straight appearance. "It's a level playing field (compared to the MIAA tourney)."
Between Trudy Goetchius (12 kills, 9 blocks and 7 digs), Paola Gutierrez (7 kills, 7 digs, 13 service points and 4 aces) and Jenny-Lee Sosa (13 assists, 13 service points and 3 aces), the Reggies had the court well covered.
"Bristol-Plymouth is pretty good, probably the best we've played," said Maloney, "but we continue to reach down and play well. This was closer than the score appeared."
Finishing its regular season at 20-0, Gr. Lawrence starts Division 2 North tourney action as the top seed, hosting the winner of No. 9 Bedford and No. 8 Bishop Fenwick Tuesday at 7 p.m.
