Two overtimes needed to best Central

Central Catholic gave powerhouse Winchester all it could handle, and it took a pair of overtimes for the Raiders to be beaten.

"It was amazing," said Central coach Anne Marinaro. "It does not get any better than Winchester, and we had them on the ropes."

The No. 7 Raiders played the undefeated No. 2 Sachems even before falling 2-1 with two minutes left in the second overtime of the Division 1 North quarterfinals.

"This was the best game I have ever been a part of as a coach," said Marinaro. "This was our first year in Division 1 North, and even the Winchest coach said we played great."

Winchester took the lead early in the second half, but Central struck back when Jill Lane took a pass from Kristen Wilson and scored 22 minutes after the break.

"It was an amazing effort by our team," said Marinaro. "Our goalie, Lauren Hoole (12 saves) was amazing and our defender Danielle Goglia was masterful. I am so proud of the team."
