WESTON — Breanna Yocum continued her stellar junior season by scoring eight goals. But despite her efforts, Pentucket lost to Weston, 18-12, in the Division 2 North semifinals last night.

The Warriors move on to face North Andover in the Division 2 North final round tomorrow.

“I’m thrilled with the season we had,” Sachems coach Bob Pierce said. “Our goal was to make the (state tournament), and we went beyond that. I think a run like this puts our team on the map, but more importantly it says a lot about the Cape Ann League.”

Yocum led all scorers with eight goals, while senior tri-captain Kayla Jewett added two goals and two assists. Leading the Weston was freshman Emma Dagres, who netted four goals.

Jewett tallied the game’s first goal 2:30 in to put the Sachems on top 1-0. But it would turn out to be Pentucket’s only lead of the night.

After Katie Daly gave Weston a 2-1 lead five minutes into the game, Dagres immediately followed suit, scoring two goals in under a minute. Each goal Pentucket scored in the first half was answered by Weston as the Sachems never found a way to control the game.

“They took away our crease roll and our cuts weren’t working all that well,” said Pierce. “More than anything, their goalie was terrific. She made some great saves at key points in the game.

“We never give up, and I think that’s something every coach who’s had to face us would tell you. I’ve had kids play (injured) and I’ve had kids play sick. This is truly a tough bunch. I couldn’t be more proud of the way our season went.”
