After dropping five games by one goal, the Methuen hockey team prevailed by one goal, 2-1, for its first victory of the season. Mike Lussier got the game-winner on assists from Danny Loughlin and Pat Lucey in the middle of the third period and goalie Jonathan Borden held Lowell at bay the rest of the way. Eric Dalrymple scored Methuen's first goal.
"Maybe it's the law of averages," mused Methuen coach Denny Egan. "But I'm glad for the kids because they've been working hard and deserve this."
