BOSTON | The problem that plagued Andover last night was blatantly clear to coach Ken Maglio.

"We need to be able to make the big play when we need them," he said. "We need to get that big first down when we need it and we need to play better in the red zone."

In a battle of two of the top teams in Eastern Mass., the No. 7-ranked Golden Warriors could not recover from their struggles inside their opponents' territory and fell to No. 9 Boston College High 35-20 last night in front of an estimated 3,000 fans.

"We have a lot of talent on offense," said Andover wide receiver Mike Morander. "When we put it all together, it really works. But we have to get it together more often."

And last night, the Golden Warriors could not put it together when it counted.

Six times Andover advanced inside the Eagles' 35-yard line. But in all six occurrences the Golden Warriors either turned the ball over on downs (three times) or had to settle for a field goal (twice) and a blocked field goal.

Andover stalled at or inside the 35 three times in the first half and came away with only three points. That while BC High built up a 17-point lead the Eaglets would not surrender.

"It's a new offense and it's going to take some time to get used to," said Maglio. "I think our stats were pretty good. We just need to put the ball in the end zone. But what's better than running against a great program like BC High."
