PLAISTOW, NH | Ever-improving Timberlane looked impressive in a 42-27 loss to defending Division 2 state champion Bishop Guertin.
Despite the Cardinals scoring on their opening drive, Timberlane's first-half defense looked sharp.
"We keep getting better," said Owls head coach Mike Pariseau. "We're playing four, five, six sophomores out there and we continue to make progress."
Bishop Guertin was stopped three times for no gain during the half, and Jack Fearon got into the Cardinal backfield with ease to earn a sack and a tackle on a dropped punt that cost the Cardinals 17 yards.
But Bishop Guertin came into the second half firing on all cylinders. The Cardinals rode the shoulders of quarterback Ryan Burgess who rushed for 93 yards and threw for 72.
Despite impressive 100 -plus yard performances on the ground from running-backs James Dionne (20-166), and Derek Furey (13-130, 4 TDs), the Owls struggled to get into a groove offensively. Furey did all the scoring for the Owls, including a 41 yard touchdown run through dense traffic early in the third quarter that kept Timberlane in the game.
