The Newburyport Clippers (11-2-3) won again yesterday, beating the Hamilton-Wenham Generals (2-11-2) 2-1 at home. With the victory, the Clippers were able to extend their winning streak to eight games. Sharp-shooting Ashley Karelis scored two goals, including the game-winner with six seconds left in the game, and Callie Hefferan notched an assist in the first half. Leah Svoboda and Haley Morris split time in goal and combined for nine Newburyport saves.
"We were just in a shooting frenzy as the clock was ticking down, and thankfully Ashley manged to put one in," said Clipper coach Lauren Hefferan. "Nicole Thurlow and Najah Ali were great on defense, and Cassandra Davis and Callie Hefferan were equally as good on offense. Their goalie (21 saves) was just incredible."
