The Pinkerton boys cross country team has experienced growing pains this fall as it's attempted to do a quick rebuild, but it grew up quickly Saturday at the Catholic Memorial Invitational.
Led by overall winner Joe Gagnon, the Astros captured five of the top 12 places to take top honors in the 13-team field, comfortably ahead of runner-up Duxbury.
Gagnon, a junior.has been the Astros' No. 1 man all year and Saturday was no exception as he captured first in 16:57 on the 5K Franklin Park course. Sophomore Nolan Preble was an impressive fourth in 17:07.
Rounding out Pinkerton's top five were juniors Jeff Mize, Steven Groulx and Ethan Desmarais in 8-11-12 and sophomore Nathan Steige came in 15th.
Salem, which finished 7th, was paced by junior Sean Holden in 13th.
