Salem's Chasse tosses one-hitter

Salem freshman Sarah Chasse celebrated her varsity softball debut with a near no-hitter, struck out nine and walked two as the Witches routed Somerville, 11-1, in their season opener at Mack Park. Chasse was two outs from a no-hitter, giving up a single that was the only ball that Somerville hit to the outfield.

Junior Maggy Duffy was another standout. The junior second baseman was 3 for 4, doubled and had six RBI. Freshman third baseman Julia Jennings was 1 for 3, scored once and had two RBI. Jennings and junior shortstop Ashley White were Salem's defensive cogs.
