With just 3.2 seconds left in double overtime, senior defenseman James Doran deked the goalie and scored to give No. 2 North Reading a 1-0 victory over No. 7 Lincoln-Sudbury in the Division 2 North quarterfinals.
Hornets goalie John Day made 27 saves, keeping the game scoreless through regulation and two overtimes. The game would have gone to a shootout after the second OT.
North Reading now advances to play No. 11 Stoneham on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Tsongas Center in Lowell.
"It was an amazing victory," said Hornets coach John Giuliotti. "I am so proud of the guys. They played fantastic."
