Each time the St. John's Prep baseball team thought it had host Arlington down and out Saturday, the Spy Ponders struck back. On three seperate occasions in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings, Arlington tied the game mere minutes after the Prep had gone on top.
Junior Mike Yastrzemski changed all that in the eighth inning with a two-run double that broke a 3-3 tie to lift the Eagles (6-1) to a 5-3 truimph, their fourth straight.
For a moment, it looked like Arlington was at it again when they led off the bottom of the eighth with a single. Prep pitcher Chris O'Hare responded by striking out the side to erase any comeback hopes and slam the door.
Junior Dan Eisenberg got the start on the hill and shined in his first varsity pitching action. He tossed 6<2/3> innings and surrendered just two runs | one earned | while fanning six and issuing only two walks. Offensively, the Eagles were led by Pete Castoldi (3-for-4, 2 RBI) and Chris Welch (2-for-4).
