Odds and ends: Last winter Central reached the state final for first time in the 11-year history of the program. ... Central opens with a showdown against Lowell. ... Super sophomore Katie Zenevitch could be in the running for state Player of the Year honors. ... Alumnus Casey Grange, who earned Female Player of the Year honors at Bryant College as a senior, returns to the Raiders as a varsity assistant. "We pursued her," said coach Sue Downer. "(JV coach Zibby) McCleary also played here (and was teammates with Grange). We want the players to see that its a family, a program, and kids want to come back to be part of it."

Coach Sue Downer (12th year, 186-69): "Katie Zenevitch will be strong in the middle. We're looking for Riley Dunn to threaten offensively, and point guard Jackie Vienneau has been working hard in the off-season. They'll be our core. We're coming off a historic, amazing season last year, and the girls felt that success and want to accomplish more. .. That's where we want the program to stay."
