Eric Lacroix boarded the bus yesterday with his Methuen teammates for the ride to Roxbury and the Large School Winter Festival, telling coach Roger Fuller he didn't feel that well. Almost immediately afterward, he dashed to the bus' trash barrel to throw up.

Eschewing Fuller's mention that he could stay home, Lacroix instead bounced back by running a quality 37.44-second 300 meters to finish fifth in a strong 142-runner field.

Junior Mike O'Donnell provided the area's best finish, bird-dogging Peabody's Nick Christensen for much of the 2-mile run before placing second by about five seconds in 9:32.19. O'Connell's time was one second off the school's junior class record.

Andover was led by Cam Farnham (dash) and Nick Gentile (long jump), who finished fifth in their events.

Over 1,500 athletes participated in the Winter Festival.
