Errors throw off Royals

In a quality pitcher's duel that took just 1:20 to play, a pair of fourth-inning errors on a first-and-third situation spoiled sophomore Ryan Browner's sparkling pitching performance in Georgetown's 2-0 defeat against undefeated Masconomet. Danyer Fabian had a pair of hits for the Royals.

Royal rumble

It's early, very early, in the Cape Ann League season, but not too early for Andrew Sinkewicz and the Georgetown to make a statement. The Royals senior right-hander silenced Newburyport with a 3-hit dazzler, striking out nine and walking just one in a 2-1 thriller. Down 1-0, the Royals scored twice in the fifth. With two outs, Ryan Browner scored on the back end of a first-and-third double steal with Chris Esposito to tie. Clipper killer Marco Luisi, who homered twice in the Division 3 North title game to beat the Port last June, then slapped an RBI single for the game-winner.

Gutsy performance

Georgetown's Ryan Browner took a hard line drive off the knee in the first inning and struggled while giving up four runs, but he stayed in the game and picked up the win in an 8-6 victory over Amesbury. He also had a key two-run single in the third and drove in three runs. "At first, I thought he'd have to go to the hospital, it was hit that hard, but he gutted it out for us," said Georgetown coach Mark Rowe.
