Runaway victories such as Pentucket's 65-25 triumph over Georgetown allows both team to groom for their futures. Freshman guard Coley Viselli had 12 points and 5 steals coming off the Sachem bench while junior Lauren Iola contributed five first-half points. Freshman Kristin Hogan flashed her potential with a pair of 3-pointers for the Royals and junior Michelle Reilly led her squad with nine points.

With a first quarter basket, senior guard Ashley Viselli became the first Pentucket female player to score 1,000 career points in the Sachems' 67-36 victory. Viselli joins Mike Iola, whose sister Lauren is a current player, as the only Pentucket athletes to achieve the milestone.

HAVERHILL — Hearts were certainly heavy, but Pentucket had just one thought on its mind — respect the memory of Matt McCarthy by playing its best.

One day removed from the tragic death of the Sachem hockey co-captain, the girls hoopsters not only had to compete for the Greater Haverhill Christmas Classic title but face a Swampscott squad that has had their number in recent meetings.

Pentucket’s whirlwind defensive effort caught Bishop Guertin off-guard, unprepared, and totally crushed.

In the opening minute, a pair of 3’s from Ashley Viselli and another from Erin McNamara, set up by their own steals, gave the Sachems a lightning-fast 9-0 lead. And in retrospect, Ashley Viselli’s foul line jumper off a fine pass from freshman Nicole Viselli gave the Sachems a 21-4 advantage and all the points they would need to win after just over four minutes of action.

Senior Ashley Viselli knocked down five 3-pointers and freshman sister Coley Viselli added two more triples as Pentucket cruised past Lynnfield 70-36.

Pentucket rolled past Amesbury, 66-44, behind a double-double from Vanessa Cahill (10 points, 10 rebounds). Ashley Viselli and Erin McNamara pumped in four 3-pointers apiece.

Pentucket whipped Newburyport, 58-22, in the opening round of Provident Tip-off Classic. Erin McNamara led all scorers with 16 points and added nine steals. Ashley Viselli added 14 points. The Sachems will host Triton in the title game Sunday at 4 p.m.
