The Central Catholic softball team (17-4) wrapped up a terrific regular season, during which it won the MVC DIvision 1 title.and tuned up for the state tournament by defeating Lexington 6-3. Alex Borrelli was 3 for 3 with three RBIs and Krista Maloney was 2 for 4 and scored twice to pace the offense.

Maffeo, Fenlon vault to victories

Central Catholic's Jamie Maffeo vaulted 9-6 to win the pole vault event at the Division 2 meet at Hingham.

Three other Central vaulters placed: Madison Arndt (9-6) earned second place, Alyson Spencer took fifth (8-0) and Bridget Persico earned eighth (8-0).

"We weren't sure if he was going to make it back, and if he doesn't make it back, we don't win, simple as that," said coach David Kuykendall of the effort.

Norton, Doherty star in varsity debuts

Setter junior T.J. Norton and sophomore middle blocker Kenny Doherty made their varsity volleyball debuts yesterday but played like veterans.

Norton recorded 18 assists. Doherty added seven blocks. Andover won 3-0 over Lexington.
