North Andover's field hockey team doubled the shots of Newton North and played a solid game, but dropped a Division 1 North first-round playoff game, 3-2. Amanda Foote had two assists for the Knights (11-5-4).

Sara McCarthy and Candace Waldie each had two hits including long triples but North Andover lost to Newton North in its tourney opener, 8-4.

Massive 6-foot-5, 245-pound Alex Blane scored two goals and assisted on two others as North Andover lacrosse opened its season with a 6-4 victory over Newton North. Zach Iovanella and Tommy O'Connell each exceled at midfielders to sustain the lead.

Chris Chu ran off four victories, topped by an 8.2 in the vault, and was all-around winner as Andover started its season with a 132.5-123.1 victory over Newton North. Freshman Brian Manning won the rings and placed in all other events for the Golden Warriors.

Brian Amor racked up 3 goals and Tyler Zahoruiko chipped in three points of his own (1 goal, 2 assists) as North Andover rolled to an easy 10-4 victory. Alex Blane and Rob Morandi each scored twice and Brien O'Connor nabbed 14 saves.

Andover's girls hockey team was frustrated a bit by a trapping defense, but the Golden Warriors had more than enough of their own defense to blank Newton North 2-0 in the first round of the Division 1 tournament. Megan Pettoruto only needed four saves to pick up her 10th shutout. Sarah Oteri and Nicole Giroux scored the goals and Alicia Nader and Lea Macheras played well early.

The Salem boys gymnastics team beat Newton North 140-89 thanks to the heroics of Nick Miles. Miles swept the meet with first place finishes in the vault (9.1), parallel bars (8.2), high bar (6.1), pommel horse (8.1), floor (9.1), rings (7.8) and all-around (48.4).
