Central wins dual tourney

 

Central Catholic improved to 6-0 after capturing the Nashoba Dual-Meet Tournament, coasting to three wins before beating defending Division 2 state champ Nashoba 45-35 in the finals. Donovan Nolan was 4-0 with three pins and was named Central's MVP of the tournament.

Big day for Lawrence

Lawrence wrestling got off to a strong start, beating Reading and Nashoba Regional before losing a close one to Cumberland, Rhode Island. Freshman Michael Hernandez went 3-0 at 110, as did senior Dominic Abreu at 126 and junior Stanley Alberto at heavyweight.

Shortstop Sean Doherty went 3-for-4 with two RBIs but Haverhill (1-4) dropped a 6-4 decision to Nashoba Regional (2-1). Joe Carter gave up two earned runs on six hits and struck out six in the loss.

Nolan leads Central

 

Donovan Nolan continued to wrestle well for Central Catholic, winning twice at both 160 and 170, as the Raiders finished second to the host team in a dual-meet tournament at Nashoba Regional. Also 4-0 for the Raiders (5-1 overall) were freshman Joe Sanchez (106), Jack Kiely (120) and Tom Pagliarulo (126), the latter of whom had three pins.

Reggies are in

Four years ago, the first year Greater Lawrence girls soccer team went 0-18. Now they are 9-5-1 and headed to the state tourney. Eddith Garcia got the Reggies the berth with a goal with three minutes left to beat Nashoba Tech 1-0. It was Garcia's second goal of the year, both coming in the last two games. Serena Torres (4 saves) notched the shutout.

In her second ever race, junior Maria Anziani turned it on in the last quarter mile to help Greater Lawrence Tech beat previously-unbeaten Nashoba Tech 27-30. She finished seventh while Rosa Lopez placed second overall.

With the bases loaded and two outs, Sean Doherty came in to strike out the final batter to preserve a 6-5 win for Haverhill over Nashoba Regional. Josh Goldstein went 2 for 3 with two doubles and two runs scored and Matt Burns went 2 for 3 with a triple and two RBIs.
