NORTHWOOD — Pinkerton's boys showed that they're starting to round into form Saturday, finishing a strong third at the Black Bear Invitational at Coe-Brown.

Sophomore Luke Brennan led the Astros, finishing seventh overall in 16:38, and junior Stephen Connelly was 11th with Zach Plaza checking in at 22nd. Host Coe-Brown came in first with  Phillips Exeter taking second.

Grace Merry-Carreiro knocked down four 3-pointers on her way to a team-high 16 points and Sanborn topped Coe-Brown 42-33.

Sanborn held Coe-Brown to 19 points in the second half and rallied for its first victory of the season, 55-52. Austin Kalinowsky had three 3-pointers and led the Indians with 19 points.

With Sanborn trailing by two runs heading into the seven, Colin Holt opened the rally with a solo home run and Chris Hanna finished it off with a two-run homer as the Indians beat Coe-Brown 4-3.

Sanborn's offense, stagnant for much of the year, erupted for 10 runs and a season-high 20 hits in a 10-5 win over a strong Coe-Brown team. Paige DesRosiers was 5 for 5 and Ally Gannon hit two home runs and drove in three to lead the way for the Indians (9-7). Also, Maggie Rasmussen was 3 for 5 with three RBIs.

Sanborn star freshman Kristina Allard took first in two events at the 16th annual Black Bear Invitational. She won the long jump (16-10.75) and the 100 meters (12.80).

Kashief Bogannam had a huge day at the 16th annual Black Bear Invitational. The Sanborn senior won the 100 meters (11.57), placed second in the triple jump (40-7.25), was second in the 400 (52.76) and was part of the fourth-place 4x100 relay team (45.76).

In Division 2 opening-round action, No. 6 Coe-Brown pulled ahead by 11 after three quarters but No. 11 Pelham fought back to cut the lead to 2 points. Coe-Brown shot lights out from the free throw line late to pull away for the 58-49 win. Drew Brown had 17 points for the Pythons.
