GROTON — Surprising Brooks improved to 2-0 with an impressive 27-16 victory at the Groton School.

Jordan Johnson led the way with 108 rushing yards and two touchdowns as well as a 35-yard TD pass to Jason Buco. Johnson's 55-yard scoring run in the third quarter was the nail in the coffin for Groton (1-1).

Kyleigh Keating racked up eight points (six goals, two assists) to help lead Phillips over Groton, 19-7. Alissa Fromkin chipped in four goals, and Alina Pechacek made four saves in the win.

Led by a dynamic doubles team of Eliza Flynn and Lauren Wilmarth (8-0), Phillips girls tennis crushed Groton, 8-0. Flynn (6-2, 6-3) and Wilmarth (6-1, 6-2) also won their singles matches convincingly.

Tied at 50 with three seconds to go in the game, Jon Stronach drew a foul and hit the two subsequent free throws to give Brooks the lead en route to a 54-50 win over Groton. Stronach finished with just four points, while Matt Lanchantin contributed a double-double.

North Andover's Appalonia Tankersley scored 13 points — 11 on free throws — and grabbed 18 rebounds in Brooks' loss to Groton.

Taylor Ocko scored the lone goal of the game on a cold and rainy day over a tough Groton opponent on the road. Ocko originally set up the play on a through ball to Linley Block, but Block was denied on a terrific save by the keeper, who could not control the ball. Mary Leah DiNicsco found the loose ball, sent it to Becca Block, who found Ocko open in front of goal for the easy game-winner.
