“Paul Buccos is the fastest guy on this team,” said Whittier senior Ralph Hancock.

In a confrontation between two of the highest-scoring teams in the state, Whittier claimed its first Super Bowl title yesterday with a 14-12 victory over East Boston winning the Division 4 title before an estimated 3,000 at Bentley University.

Ryan Browner (7 innings pitched, 11 strike outs, 0 walks, 3 hit-by-pitch, 4 hits, 6 runs, 1 earned run) pitched great on the mound, but the Royals made a couple of costly mistakes leading to big East Boston innings. Danyer Fabian had a solo home runs for Georgetown.

It was a banner day for Fenwick's youngesters as sophomores Amanda McInnis (2-for-3, 3 runs, RBI), Danielle Dinuccio (2-for-3, run, 2 RBI) and freshman Amy Pelletier (1-for-2, 2 RBI) keyed the 13-0 rout of East Boston. Sophomore Alyssa Begin shined on the hill for the Crusaders (3-4) with a complete game two-hitter and 11 strikeouts.

At least Lawrence High coach Paul Neal was honest with himself and his team.

"I think we had more turnovers than shot attempts," said Neal, whose youthful Lancers led much of the way but ultimately fell to East Boston, 66-62, last night.
