Central Catholic has had bigger stars and more star power.
Rick Nault, though, said he's never had a more driven squad.
"I don't think many people would have had us at 18-1 at this point," said Nault, whose Raiders claimed sole possession of their sixth straight MVC Division 1 title with a 72-54 thumping of Andover last night.
"To be very honest, it's our most balanced team. We have four guys that can really hurt you on any given night. Without a doubt it's the hardest-working group we've ever had."
Nault and the Raiders have a severe identity crisis.
They lack Nault's stars of the past like Carson Desrosiers, Jimmy Zenevitch, Billy Marsden et al.
Last night, the Raiders finally put Andover away in the fourth quarter with a fearsome attack on the offensive glass.
"We thought with (Sam) Dowden out and (Connor) Merinder in foul trouble, we were able to dominate in the paint," said Nault. "In the second half, we put (Nick) Cambio, (Joel) Berroa and (Doug) Gemmell on the floor together. It had to create mismatches and we found them."
Tyler Nelson owned the first half, scoring all 17 of his points as the Raiders led 44-32 at the break. The second half belonged to Central's bigs.
Berroa finished with 14 points and the sophomore Cambio chipped in with 11. Central was an uncanny 23 of 25 from the line, 19 of 19 in the first half.
Chris Dunn enjoyed a big 20-point night for Andover, and freshman Max Silveira chipped in 15, but the loss of Dowden allowed the CC defense to smother James Costello (8 points).
