Owls Band Works With Football Team and Cheerleaders to Rock and Roll

After an Owls victory, the Timberlane Regional High School marching band has a five-year tradition with the Owls | they play the fight song and the players sing along.

It's one of the many elements of comradery between the band and the players that opponents notice at the games.

The band also has the Owls rocking out on the field to classics by the band Chicago this season, including "Make Me Smile," "Does Anybody Really Know What Time it is," "Free" and "25 or 624."

The marching band plays at all home games, select away games and the band festival show in Dover in October, according director Tony DiBartolomeo.

The band works hand in hand with the cheerleaders | accompanying them on many cheers and chants.

"Together, we're the two most supportive outlets for the football team," DiBartolomeo said.

At Timberlane, music is part of a student's core curriculum. Band members practice each day from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. and get graded in music just like any other class.

When the weather is nice, they practice in the stadium. This year the band is back to making formations on the field while they play, something they practice during their morning block.

DiBartolomeo leads the band in the national anthem, then lets drum majors Kelsey Bogdanovich and David Polito take over the conducting for the rest of the game.

The marching band is made up of all instrument musicians at the school. After football season is over, they split into a wind ensemble and a symphonic band for the rest of the school year.
