Andrew Lebowitz, Andover: The senior defensive lineman spent the entire game in the opposing backfield in the Golden Warriors' season-opening 22-0 win over North Andover. The 5-foot-11, 275-pounder made a team-high six tackles and two of Andover's six sacks. His defense allowed just 24 yards of total offense.

Jimmy Johnson, Andover: The junior made the best of his first game under the lights. His first career varsity catch went for a 15-yard touchdown, and his third grab was a 16-yard score. He finished with three receptions for 45 yards.

Zak Adamopoulos, Central Catholic: The Raider senior proved he's clearly up to the task, transitioning from center to tight end. The 6-foot-1, 225-pounder, sporting the odd number of 99, caught four balls for 45 yards, moving the chains three times on third down for the Raiders in a 28-14 win over Lawrence.

Joe Esposito, Georgetown: Esposito succeeded in every way possible, leading to a blowout win over Matignon. The senior used intelligence, patience and muscle to roll up 217 total yards of offense and four touchdowns, including a 10-yard push into the end zone and a 57-yard scoring rumble that should have ended as a four-yard loss.

Jeff McLaughlin and Andrew Sinkewicz, Georgetown: The two linemen spent more time in the Matignon secondary than their own players did. McLaughlin's huge block helped convert a third-down play and led to Georgetown's final first-half touchdown. Sinkewicz stood out on the Royals' first drive, springing David Kenneally for a 33-yard romp early on, then helping Joe Esposito get around the left corner on his 4-yard TD carry.

Kyle Sullivan, Evangelo Souliotis and Ben Tufts (offensive linemen), Haverhill: Both of the Hillies' long touchdown runs against Malden started on the left side of the line, and these three were the main reason. Collapsing the defensive line and hemming in the linebackers, this trio gave QB Isiah Ocasio and RB Noel Figuereo the space their speed demanded.

Dimar Torres, Lawrence: The senior corner, known best to his teammates as "Tigger," turned in his second straight big effort on defense. Torres broke up a pair of passes with tight coverage and finished the night against Central with six solo tackles.

Londonderry offensive line: The Lancers used four running backs to pound the ball inside for 275 yards in a 28-14 victory over Salem. Returning starters Tom Manley, Sean Ryan and Alex Deyeso were particularly immense and big Josh Nitso (6-3, 285) and Kevin Garrabrant were also effective.

Sean Cairns, Methuen: With the game on the line and less than two minutes left in the fourth quarter, Cairns broke up a pass from Concord-Carlisle's Dan D'Arcy in the end zone on fourth-and-goal to give the Rangers a chance But the offense was unable to score, and Methuen fell 14-13.

Darren Hartwell, North Reading: After playing a key part in the Hornets' season-opening upset win over Pentucket, Hartwell caught the game-winning overtime touchdown from John Brooks in their 12-6 win over Tyngsboro on Friday. He also stood out in the defensive backfield.

Conor McColgan, Pelham: The junior anchored the offensive line from center and stood out in the clutch at linebacker in Pelham's 29-14 victory. Led by McColgan, the Pythons accumulated 332 yards on the ground. He also contributed a pivotal pick late in the game to squash an impressive Trinity drive.

Shawn Clukey, Pinkerton: He may not have kicked a game-winning field goal, but Clukey did everything else in the Astros' 41-6 win over Manchester Memorial. He made 4 of 5 extra points, booted two touchbacks on kickoffs and excelled punting, highlighted by a 51-yard bomb in the third quarter.

Joe Murphy, Sanborn: The senior safety was the star of the Indians' first home game in 35 years. The 5-7, 160-pounder made a game-high 13 tackles and led Sanborn in rushing with 87 yards on just 10 carries.

Derek Furey, Timberlane: As good as he was on opening night, he was even better in Game 2. He rushed for a whopping 340 yards and five touchdowns as the Owls downed Dover 34-13. He already has 477 yards rushing for the season.

Tyler Page, Whittier: The 5-11, 179-pound senior running back made the most of his chances, rushing for 96 yards on just eight carries. He ripped off runs of 38 and 28 yards, the latter of which gave his team a 32-6 lead in the third quarter
