Ian Mitchell scored five goals for Pentucket, but it still wasn't enough as the Sachems fell to Masconomet, 8-6. Pentucket scored five times in the third periiod.  Tom Pingree had the other Pentucket goal.  He also had three assists.

Nicole Stevens earned CAL/NEC MVP honors after placing in the top spot for the best all-around average in the league. Stevens also took first place in the beam and teammate Jessica Whitehead enjoyed the same success in the floor excercise at yesterday's league meet.

Andover's girls skiers completed an unbeaten regular season (10-0) with a 90-45 victory over Masconomet. Jess Kearns, Julia Ganley, Kerry Christopher and Nicole Ericson finished second through fifth overall for the Warriors. They'll be the favorite in next Tuesday's Interscholastic Meet at Bradford.

North Andover's wrestling team tuned up for Saturday's Division 2 sectional with a 49-21 rout of Masconomet, which won the Cape Ann League Open last Saturday when the Knights (17-2) opted for the Methuen Tournament. John Pollard had a key 6-4 decision at 195 for the Knights. Zane Melillo returned from sickness to record a 47-second pin at 132.

North Andover wrapped up a 6-0 season with a 97-73 win over Masconomet. Kieran Dunbar was a triple winner (100 and 200 freestyle, 400 free relay). He and Liam Walsh (500 free) both earned sectional cuts.

After falling behind by five points on a clutch Chelsea Nason 3-pointer and two Danielle Davis free throws with 2:13 left, Pentucket scored 10 of the game's next 12 points to pull out a 57-54 win over Masconomet. Alex Moore (13 points) hit a driving layup and a huge 3 to give the Sachems the lead, and Coley Viselli (16 points) sank three free throws down the stretch to preserve the victory.

Brendan Varney ran a personal-best 1:28.99 to win the 600 and pace North Andover to a 51-35 win over Masconomet, earning the 9-1 Knights the Cape Ann League title. Not to be lost in the euphoria of Varney's win was an exciting second-place finish from Kyle Quinn, who made a furious dash at the end.

North Andover swept the shot put, the second to last event. That clinched a 45-41 win over Masconomet, the league title and a 10-0 season! Courtney Green threw 34-9, Katie McManus 32-5 1/2 and Alexa Layne 27-1. Julia Mehlman had an impressive dash/high jump double, Kathryn McFadden had a personal best to win the hurdles and Eleni Coufos captured the 600. It was the Knights' third title in four years.

Taking three of the top four spots, Andover remained unbeaten with its dominating ski victory over Masconomet. Kerry Christopher was the overall winner for the Warriors followed by Jess Kearns in third place and Julia Ganley in fourth.

Without starters Casey McLaughlin and Caitlin Dell-Orfano, who both have leg injuries, Central Catholic scored only five points in the second quarter en route to a 59-39 loss to 10th-ranked Masconomet.
